This exhibition seeks to convey the history of popular music in the 20th century, with a special focus on the contribution of Jewish performing artists, producers and composers. Full of popular songs from film, theatre, jazz, folk, punk and more - most of the music isn’t necessarily Jewish, but does reflect the 20th-century Jewish experience, with some of it representative of the effort to keep Jewish tradition alive after the tragedy of the Holocaust. Aside from recordings, interviews and original vinyl records, there will be phonographs and gramophones on display. A jukebox, specifically constructed for this occasion, will be one of the main attractions. Among the music visitors will hear are songs from Fiddler on the Roof, recordings by Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, the Ramones and Polish artists like Mieczysław Fogg, Śliwki and Następcy Tronów. In addition to getting to know the creators of this music, visitors will also hear from its listeners; people involved with Jewish culture who will speak about the songs that impacted their lives and the experience of being a Jew in the 20th century.
