Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, this exhibition focuses on the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and what happened afterwards: the formation of the new Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (officially renamed Yugoslavia in 1929), and the social and economic dislocation that resulted from four years of war. The exhibition covers the processes that led Croatian politicians to embrace the idea of Yugoslavia and looks onwards to the sense of disappointment and disillusion they experienced when the new state failed to live up to expectations. The story is told through the eyes of both key protagonists and ordinary citizens, with documents and photographs adding up to an enjoyable and revealing slice of social history.
