This March, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing alongside Amira Medunjanin. Medunjanin, born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, has over the years built her own style of performing and is regarded as the "Bosnian Billie Holiday.” Her music features an innovative approach to the traditional music of Bosnia and Herzegovina, called sevdah, which refers to yearning, such as for a hopeless love. Medunjanin combines traditional melodies of sevdah with new contexts and forms.
