Butcher Ludwig Hatecke, or his son David, will probably greet you personally with a cordial allegra! when you enter this shop and bistro right on Löwenplatz. But the Romansh language isn't the best thing they've brought with them from the Grison Alps to Zurich. It's the meat that everyone loves. The Hateckes also run butcher shops in Engiadine and collaborate with local farmers and hunters there, so you can get everything from venison and chamois to beef, much of it served as dried delicacies. Take a seat in the bistro and order a tartar, some ragout or beef carpaccio, like we did, or check out the meat that's available at the counter. Usually they're happy to give you a sample, so you know exactly what you're buying, and sometimes even a glass of wine to make the experience even more special. That's real hospitality, something else they brought down from the mountains.
