Just about the best place to come in Brasov for anything ‘indoor sports.’ By that we mean bowling, pool, snooker, table-tennis, darts etc. What’s that you say? Romanians don’t play darts? Oh yes they do, and some of them are very good indeed.

With some kind of event on almost every night of the week, be it the all-conquering karaoke night (Thursday) or Haydn Deane and his Big Band (Friday) swinging out the hits, Deane's is a one-stop shop for food, drink and good times. Sensational bangers and mash will have Brits flocking in, as will terrific jacket potatoes and a decent pint of Guinness. Reservations essential at weekends if you've designs on sitting down.

New-ish pub in the lower part of Old Town that is as good as almost anywhere else in town for a beer and a bit of Friday night action. On our last visit was looking popular with a slightly younger crowd than elsewhere: no old fogies here then.  [...]

In a cellar quite literally underneath the city’s main university, this place is not surprisingly popular with students, at least during term time. Guinness on tap an attraction for resident expats, though it is not the only place in the city serving the black stuff.

An old favourite this one, it's been around as long as we’ve been coming to Brasov, and certainly isn’t for sale. Good cheap beer, cheery staff and plenty of regulars make it the nearest thing in these parts to a village local. There are regular events, from theme parties to live music; [...]

Once just a big pub and little else, Saloon, like Brasov itself, has evolved. It is now an all-day venue, serving decent food – such as local favourite ciorba de fasole cu ciolan -  alongside a good list of beers. Look for the daily specials on the blackboard. There is usually a 12 lei lunchtime special. Remains lively in the evenings.

In a cellar just off Piata Sfatului (in summer it also operates a terrace right on the square) this pub 
offers darts, karaoke nights, wifi and is open for coffee during the day. We should mention that they also hold Pure White parties: whereby you are asked to wear all white. Nuff said, me’s thinks.

A lounge and club in the same courtyard as Bella Sicilia. Each weekend evening there is a DJ 
spinning tunes, and the cocktail list is one of the best in the city. Central location makes it a hit with visitors as well as locals. An day kind of place, you can get good coffee during the day: it opens about an hour after it closes.

Two minutes from Piata Sfatului this pub and live music venue is a more than welcome addition to the Brasov scene. There is live music act at least a couple of nights as week, lunch time happy hours, and the obligatory karaoke night. Guinness on draught, and drinks in general are well priced. Attracts a young crowd of locals and visitors. Worth a go.
