Nekrasov Museum

  Liteiny pr. 36 ,   City Centre-1          (+7) 812 272 01 65     more than a year ago
Nikolay Nekrasov’s apartment-museum not only commemorates the author’s life, but also tells the story of a boisterous intellectual circle. On the one hand, bears and books in abundance (Nekrasov loved to hunt), as well different items – including medicine jars from the final days and many photos of family and friends capture the author’s tastes and daily activities. On the other hand, this space also served as the headquarters of the radical 19th century literary journal Sovremennik (“The Contemporary”), which under Nekrasov and Ivan Panaev published notable writers like Turgenev, Goncharov, Charles Dickens and George Sand. Come here to get a sense of Nekrasov’s realist poetry and democratist politics. Make sure to read up on Nekrasov first, as most of the information is printed in Russian.
