Since Mexico is relatively close to Curacao, we've always been miffed that the island hosts so few Mexican restaurants. The ones that popped up from time to time, didn't last long. However, Rene, the Dutch owner of El Mexicano has proven that Curacao is ready for this delicious cuisine. After setting up a number of successful Mexican restaurants in the Netherlands, he finally opened his first restaurant in Curacao at BLVD (Sea Aquarium Beach) in early 2013, a large space with seating for over 200 people. Inside you can enjoy the AC and the colourful paintings and artefacts of Mexican origin. Outside, the covered sitting area is the perfect place for a romantic evening. The menu has all of the usual Mexican dishes, but the Bife Ala el Mexicano platter is our absolute favourite. The Combinacion El Mexicano, a plate piled high with a wide variety of Mexican food, comes a close second.
