Most Instagrammable Spots in Copenhagen

more than a year ago
Copenhagen is a perfect city for influencers, that is probably why they have so many of them. But even if you aren't one, a good shot for Instagram is always welcome, isn't it? A perfect place for a shot is almost everywhere, with their great architecture, beautiful nature and numerous castles, it's actually harder to find a spot that's not instagrammable, especially downtown. However, we've made a selection of some of our favourite selfie places in Copenhagen.

Nyhavn

Copenhagen has a very colourful waterfront called Nyhavn. It is a line of thin but tall buildings in different colours, detached to one another, making it look like something from a dream, or a hallucination. Nyhavn is located on its namesake canal, which is a harbour to a number of historical wooden ships in the heart of Copenhagen. At the very end of the canal is a huge memorial anchor. Many of the buildings' ground floors were transformed into small bars and cafes with marvellous view.

Rosenborg

One of the most beautiful Danish castles, Rosenborg, is located in the very center of Copenhagen, surrounded by the King's Garden. The castle was built for the popular Danish king, Christian IV, as a summerhouse (imagine owning a summerhouse like that). More than 400 years ago, this renaissance castle is the centerpiece of the city. With a not-too-big admission fee, you can explore the wanders this place has to offer, even see the Danish Crown Regalia, in the cellar. One of the central attractions here is definitely the long hall, featuring the coronation thrones, and three golden lions.

Tivoli Gardens

A must see (and do) attraction in Copenhagen is definitely Tivoli amusement park, located in the epicenter of Copenhagen. A great number of rides, for all age groups, from carousel to rollercoaster, can be found here. The park was opened in 1843, and served as an inspiration to Walt Disney for a park of his own, Disneyland. The gardens are beautiful even for a walk, with a lake in the centre and historic buildings all around. During the night, a millions of little flickering lights create an even more magical atmosphere in this place of fun and laughter.

Freetown Christiania

Wouldn't it be awesome to go to a place where cannabis is freely sold? Well, that place exists and it's called Freetown Christania, located in Christianshavn, Copenhagen. Originally, the site was military owned, and consists of military barracks. Now it is a home to many workshops, artists, yoga practitioners and the like. With a lot of well-done graffiti, artists displaying their work and curious tourists, it really stands out from the rest of Copenhagen.

The Little Mermaid

Erected in 1913. to honor the world renowned Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, the Mermaid shortly became one of the most important sights and the icon of Copenhagen, and for a good reason. The love story about the Little Mermaid is well known, if nothing, through Disney animated film, even though the ending was modified to suit the viewers, kids. The protagonist and the statue both suffered greatly, the mermaid turned into sea foam, while the statue had been vandalized numerous times in various ways, luckily the talented Danish artists managed to repair it each time.

Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Possibly the funniest museum in town, Ripley's Believe It or Not holds more than 1000 amazing exhibits, including the stuffed the two-headed cow, the unbelievably realistic Taj Mahal miniature, built from 300.000 matches as well as many other curiosities that you don't see every day. The museum is a perfect activity for any rainy Copenhagen day, and we all know there are many of those here. In addition to this, posting a picture with any of the exhibits is bound to get you a few extra likes on your social media.

Botanical Garden

Is there a better place for a stroll and enjoying the nature than a Botanical Garden with all the local and imported plants it features? We don't think so. Same goes for Copenhagen's Botanical Garden, a large green surface right next to Rosenborg Castle and the King's Garden. Additionally to the outdoors, there are very big and very old glasshouses with some great exotic plants worth checking out.

Danish Jewish Museum

In a beautiful building of Danish Royal Library's old gallery house, lies Danish Jewish Museum. It was designed to commemorate the history of Danish Jews saved from the Nazis. The working hours of this place are very short, but if you happen to be late or early, you can spend some quiet time in the museum's awe inspiring garden.

The King's Garden

In front of the mesmerizing Rosenborg Castle, in the very heart of Copenhagen, lies Kongens Have, the King's Garden. This enormous park of 12 hectares is the most visited park in the city, by both locals and the tourists, all searching for a place to rest. Whether you like the sun of the shades, enjoying the grass or flowers, or just feeding the ducks in a small lake around the caste, the place epitomizes the true hygge of the Danes.

The Chistiansborg Tower

The tallest building in the city is definitely the Christiansborg Tower. Due to this, from the platform at its top, you can see all of Copenhagen, and snap some cool instagram photos. The entrance to the tower is free, but there is a security check, and you might have to queue for a few minutes, and fear not, you don't have to walk all the way up, there is a spacious elevator for the visitors. At the top of the tower, there is also a nice restaurant, with an equally amazing view.
