If you're not overly irritated by peeling paint, people smoking next to you and electric cables you'd normally only expect to see in Third World countries, you'll feel right at home in this old-fashioned pub in the Jordaan. As the name suggests, 't Monumentje (small monument) is a pub to be cherished. Although the dated décor and many of the regulars are way past their sell-by date, there's plenty to enjoy here. Every first Monday of the month crooners take part in a Dutch sing-along, so you might want to give it a pass unless of course you know the words to local levenslied tunes.
