Elsa's Café

  Middenweg 73 ,   Oost          (+31) 206 68 50 10     more than a year ago
This boisterous pub and café is steeped in history having served as a tavern since the late 19th century and as a meeting place for Ajax supporters before the venerated stadium just down the road was torn down. The walls are plastered with old photos, posters and memorabilia, the tables are worn from years of use and the bar at the back is always abuzz with the activity of both patrons and staff. Considering its excellent selection of Dutch microbrews like ‘t IJ, Texels and Jopen, it’s no wonder it’s still a popular place to watch football matches. A large terrace with views of the park across the street is a big bonus and a full menu of hearty meals like t-bone steaks, spare ribs and Wiener schnitzel will satisfy even the biggest of carnivores. In short, if you're looking for great local atmosphere, this is the place to go.
