Only a scant few years ago Starbucks came to the Netherlands where it easily conquered the hearts of local Java drinkers. They've finally also made it to Amsterdam where the word coffeeshop differs quite substantially from its counterpart in Seattle. Perhaps this is the reason they've only recently entered the market. In any event, it's everything you'd expect. It's big, comfortable and its good coffee combos keep a parade of jittery caffeine addicts queued up at all times. This particular location in a former bank vault is also a so-called Starbucks laboratory where baristas experiment with drinks that aren't available anywhere else in Europe.
