It's hard to imagine a more attractive location for a pub than Haarlem’s 16th-century weigh station building. Even if you don't plan on having a drink here, a visit to this historical monument is worth the effort. Inside you can see the ancient scales, which once weighed grain, still hanging from the ceiling. The pub itself is a great place to drink a pint or two, meet some locals or to enjoy the terrace on a sunny day. Taverne De Waag organises poetry nights once a month and every Sunday afternoon a live band plays folk music. On Wednesday and Friday evenings a set dinner is served for just €10, which is extremely popular, so you might want to reserve a table on those nights. You'll get a beefsteak with fries and a salad in the middle of the week and fried cod on Friday.
