This is one of those places you can only enter accidentally, but when we stepped inside this smoky, old-fashioned brown bar we fell in love with it immediately. Wapen van Bakenes is a popular old-timers’ hangout and we assume that the bar is even older than its clientele. This nostalgia-filled place is what a typical Dutch bar looked like 40 years ago and that is precisely what makes a visit here all the more interesting. Inside you'll find ragged rugs on the tables, old wallpaper behind cabinets full of ancient junk, a billiard room, a gambling machine and a gorgeous wooden bar. In keeping with its 20th-century atmosphere, smoking is allowed and a pleasant, cosy mood is mandatory. Every first Friday of the month, Wapen van Bakenes organises a jazz session.
