The so-called Weepers Tower is one of the few remaining defensive towers left from Amsterdam’s medieval city walls. It was built in the early 15th century and is purported to be the place from which explorer Henry Hudson set sail for the New World in 1609 leading to the founding of the small settlement of New Amsterdam on the island of Manhattan. Today, it houses a Dutch café and bar that has an authentic antique interior and a great summer terrace overlooking the canal.
