Windmill De Otter

Gillis van Ledenberchstraat 76 - 78 ,   West         more than a year ago
De Otter is one of the oldest mills in Amsterdam, dating from 1631, and one of only five remaining paltrok type sawmills in Holland. Unfortunately, this small wooden windmill has been closed behind fences since 2006. Despite the mill’s large historical value, it's closed to the public. Recent construction of several taller buildings in the area caused De Otter to be completely blocked off from any wind source. Although the owner would like to move De Otter to an open location outside Amsterdam, the city government would like to keep the mill at its current address. A legal process concerning the relocation of De Otter has been going on for years and the future of the mill is still uncertain.
