Zuiderkerk

  Zuiderkerkhof 72 ,   Centrum          (+31) 880 20 22 80     more than a year ago
Currently used as rather grand office space for the National Museum of History, the South Church was built between 1603 - 1611 and its renowned spire was erected a few years later and still houses the oldest church bell in the Netherlands. The illustrious Jewish philosopher Spinoza spoke here in better times, but the house of worship was used as a morgue during the infamous Hunger Winter of 1944 - 1945. Today it’s also used as a conference hall and a wedding venue, but you can take a peek at its rather austere interior on weekdays.
