Also rather ambiguously referred to as the Attack Gate, in spite of being more of a passageway and certainly only designed for pedestrian use, the Ausfahl Gate dates from the 1620s but was reconstructed in red brick by the Prussian general Ludwig von Aster who re-fortified the city in the 1840s, 50s and 60s. The Orthodox chapel of St. George was built directly on top of it in 1993 and by far the best view of the ensemble is from the moat side, in Victory Park. Although currently closed to the public, there's talk of it being incorporated into a future ‘military-historical complex’.
