Tugendhat Villa

Modern architecture doesn’t come much more impressive than Brno’s Tugendhat Villa. Built towards the end of the 1920s, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s creation was modernist before modernism even existed. The villa lived through all that the 20th century could throw at it, from Nazi invasions to Soviet devastation, and has come out the other end even stronger than before.
The concrete structure is the perfect example of the architecture built with harmony in mind. It is surrounded by peaceful gardens that can be enjoyed all year round, while to visit the interior of the villa you’ll have to book a tour (and you’ll need to do that way, way in advance).
