In 2003 a few kilometres north of Primorsko (55 km south of Burgas), the unique Thracian sanctuary Beglik Tash was discovered, which is the earliest Thracian megalithic sanctuary found so far in south eastern Thrace and the Black Sea coast area. It is believed the site was used from 14^th till 4^th century BC. The sanctuary consists of a central section surrounded by two smaller structures. Large rocks were partially hewn by hand and assembled on site, and the stone slabs and blocks are arranged in unique shapes. Residential buildings and ritual fireplaces are a further indication of human activity here.
Today you can admire the amazing rock configurations and enjoy the magnificent tranquillity of this site.
The best way to approach the site by car is through the town of Primorsko. It’s about 15 min drive(8km) along a narrow but tarmacked road past the beaches and then uphill; it is well signposted. There is a car park area and a barrier. From here it is still a 15 min walk to the site, but when the barrier is up you can drive right to the site (dirt road). There is also a picnic area and chemical toilet there.
