Burgas

Chances are you will be entering Burgas on the A1 (E 773) Trakia Highway, the 389 km motorway to Sofia, which runs through Burgas like a main artery until it reaches the Sea Gardens. The E87 is the coastal road which comes in from the north via the airport and continues as a dual carriageway down to Sozopol. The main roads are generally wide and in good condition, although there can be potholes and patches of surface damage, so it is always advisable to drive carefully.

There are several roundabouts in Burgas, but they do not follow the traditional British rule that those on the roundabout have priority, so do look out for the relevant road signs. Sadly the incidence of RTAs especially on the Sozopol road and also up to Sunny Beach and beyond is quite high due to high speed aggressive driving often under the influence of alcohol. Drive carefully!
