The Aquarium is fast becoming Genoa’s biggest tourist attraction, evident from the queues outside the ticket office on Saturday mornings. It claims to be the biggest of its kind in Europe and although it can be pricey if you're gong with the whole family you really will be impressed with its variety of marine life. Particular favourites are the various big tanks with sharks, dolphins and seals. If you’re there on Mon/Wed/ Fri around midday you might catch the sharks’ snack time. If you’re one of those touchy-feely types, head for the skates’ tank where stroking the fish is absolutely encouraged! As well as piranhas, tropical fish, penguins and jelly fish, a series of tropical and Mediterranean ecosystems have been reproduced which include plants, reptiles too. Everything is explained in English and you’ll need at least 2 hours to see it all properly, if not, more. Signs everywhere tell you ‘No flash, happy fish,’ so remember absolutely no flash photography allowed. Travel light as the cloakroom can be expensive.
