The original statue of Goethe sitting on a bench was unveiled on the 15^th of May 1932 on the occasion of the 100^th anniversary of his death. Willy Russ of Krásno was its author.

The statue was destroyed during the Second World War. After the war, there was a stone bearing a plaque installed on the original pedestal, stating that Goethe's statue had been standing there.

Today's statue of Goethe, a masterpiece by the local sculptor Vítězslav Eibl, was placed on the original pedestal and unveiled in 1993.
