This gorgeous hotel right in the centre of town offers a perfect combination of luxury, art and history. The building dates from 1881 when Leendert Spaander opened a tavern here that soon became a meeting place for artists from all over Europe. Some even left paintings in exchange for room and board and today visitors can admire over 1400 works of art in the hotel's café. Guests can expect a traditional Volendam experience that would no doubt seem authentic to some, yet clichéd to others. Waitresses in the restaurant wear Dutch costumes and one of the rooms is completely furnished in an ‘authentic Volendam interior’. Despite the hotel’s old-fashioned approach, its rooms are modern, spacious, clean and generally worth the price. Most have a view of the IJsselmeer and a sauna, swimming pool and a fitness room are also available.
