Due to limited space in the wetlands surrounding Amsterdam, buildings are usually built on top of the remains of a former structure and the Schellingwouderkerk is no exception. Like many other 19th-century churches, it’s built on a mound at the bottom of an embankment. The church’s interior boasts a blue-green wooden ceiling and white plaster work.
