Not far from the popular Ecomare, which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, lies the Sommeltjes Path. Sommeltjes are mythical beings not unlike gnomes that supposedly live on the island of Texel. Local legend has it that these creepy little creatures with smirky smiles come alive at night, but are magically transformed into stone statues once the sun comes up. You can follow this 1.5km forest trail through the attractive Dennenbos and see if you or the little ones can spot these mischievous critters.
