You're never far from history on Curacao. Today Den Dunki National Park may seem like a relaxing place to get some fresh air, but in the 17th century this was a prison where slaves could ‘recover’ from the unspeakable conditions they endured while being shipped across the Atlantic against their will. Unfortunately, not much remains from this era apart from the so-called Slave Bridge. After slavery was abolished, the wealthy owners of Landhuis Zuurzak transformed the area into a swan park with a number of ornamental water fountains. Jan Thiel's famous flamingos can be found at the south side exit.
