Utrecht used to be crowded with drug addicts who congregated in old tunnels and monastery gardens. Thankfully, in past years things have changed for the better. Utrecht is now a pioneer of a zero tolerance policy towards narcotics stressing re-integration and social participation. This method gives living quarters to the homeless and drug addicts so they don't have to live on the streets. Now you can join in a city tour that shows you the tough life experienced by the homeless and drug addicts in Utrecht. Guided by the people who have been there and seen it all, this is not your average sightseeing tour. A bit like an In Your Pocket guide, it's rough and edgy and not for your average tourist. This is not a poverty tour! Eight (ex-)homeless and (ex-)drug addicts show you the city in an open and honest way and talk about their past as heroin addicts in Utrecht. Frank stories mixed with a good sense of humor are told and the tours last roughly 1.5 hours. They begin in front of the tourist office (VVV) at the Dom Square (Domplein).
