If swimming in the salty sea isn't at top of your bucket list, try the fresh water of de Berkenplas. Attached to the lakeshore is a small eatery with a giant outdoor terrace. Keeping an eye on your offspring on the beach is much more relaxed from here and much less stressful than trying to keep track of them at the nearby Wadden Sea coastline, one of the widest beaches in Europe. All of the usual snacks and drinks are available and it's also a good place to rent a canoe.
