Named after the three steps you have to take to enter this lunchroom, Croissanterie Het Opstapje is a centrally located eatery in the heart of Groningen. Although the sandwiches are fresh, tasty and inexpensive, we had problems feeling at home in this artificial-looking space. Perhaps its the outdated interior with the ugliest wall mural we've seen in Groningen. In any case, if you're hungry try a tasty baguette like the Dow Jones (with American roast beef) or the Stockholm (with smoked salmon). Sipping a freshly made coffee on the terrace on both sides of the street is also a pleasure, especially if you can avoid an unpleasant encounter with the city's crazy cyclists.
