Tantra is one of the most popular night clubs for locals, although it's not in the open air like many of its competitors. The place is often packed with lots of sweaty St. Maarten men, especially on Wednesdays (ladies night) and Saturdays. The décor and atmosphere is typical of most dance clubs and the DJs play a good mix of dancehall, soca, hip hop and RnB underneath a battery of neon lights and a rainbow disco mirror ball. Unfortunately, smoking is allowed inside, but luckily the friendly bartenders know how to make a proper cocktail. The upstairs Asian-style lounge room is much more comfortable than the dance floor, but we didn’t stay long enough to see if anyone used the so-called harem bed.
