Once a part of the city's fortifications near the lake, these days the Bauschänzli peninsula has made itself useful as Zurich's biggest beer garden. Get a big beer (a grosses) and a bratwurst (veal sausage) with potato salad at the self-service counter and then enjoy some shade under the old trees and the view of the river. There's also a full-service restaurant area where not only the food, but also the prices are more sophisticated. A dance night with a DJ and a professional dancer occurs every Thursday evening and a jazz band plays during the brunch buffet (reservations recommended) on Sundays.
