Located, about 15 kilometers southwest of Tbilisi is the medieval Kojori Fortress (also known as Agarani or Azeuli Fortress). The earliest parts date back to the late 11th century, but most of the structures were built between the 16th and 18th centuries. When the Red Army invaded Georgia in February 1921, Kojori witnessed brutal fighting between the Georgian and Soviet forces. There is a bus from Tbilisi (Kolmeurneoba/Kolkhoz Square, right next to the flower market) that runs every 30 to 40 minutes.
