Shopping in Zurich

Zurich has the reputation of a shopping city, even if not quite that of London or Milano. Especially Bahnhofstrasse is well known around the globe as one of the most exclusive and expensive shopping streets in the world. For Swiss and urban design, Europaallee and the area around Langstrasse are good spots - check out our special. In the way of shopping malls, Switzerland can’t match other European countries where huge centres are the order of the day. But maybe that’s a good thing. The Sihlcity shopping centre, an easily reachable mall opened in 2007, is an example of an innovative development - without being a giant. The shopping mall Glatt just outside the city limits is Switzerland's most popular shopping mall. The malls and best shopping areas of the city are listed here together with other remarkable shops. Remember all shops are closed on Sundays except at the railway stations.

Shopping in Zurich is not just Bahnhofstrasse and the old town. There are other districts which are well worth a visit for shoppers - especially if you are hunting for some cool clothes and accessories and would like a break from the big global brands. The area around the southern end of Langstrasse in district n°4 (aka Chreis Cheib) definitely is such an area. Every few steps you come across another enticing little shop on Langstrasse or in the side streets. Generally it’s less glittery and glamourous here than on Bahnhofstrasse, but more urban and cosmopolitan with many young, Swiss labels. We list some of our favourites below. Langstrasse is closer than you think, and not only worth the visit for the nightlife!
