Belfast city centre witnessed many of the most tragic events of NI’s sectarian conflict which became known as ‘The Troubles’. ‘A History of Terror’ is an award-winning daily city centre walking tour which explains the history of the Troubles and the path to peace.
Starting at Belfast City Hall with an expert guide, over 2 hours and 1.5 miles you visit 7 city centre sites where some of the most important events of the conflict occurred in the 1970s. The tour lets you explore and understand the most turbulent period in Belfast’s recent past and what it was like to live here during this time.
While walking through the Cathedral Quarter and finishing on the banks of the River Lagan, the guides also explain the peace-building process and demonstrate the reconciliation and regeneration that has taken place since the ceasefires over 20 years ago.
The guides are among the most knowledgeable conflict historians in NI and the tour is balanced, objective and historically accurate. It is suitable for all visitors to Belfast, regardless of how much or little they already know of our troubled past. You'll even discover why it was called 'the Troubles'.
The tour has won awards from TripAdvisor, Wanderlust and Tourism NI including ‘Top UK Tour Guide’ 2019. Advance booking is essential to ensure a tour is running and available on your chosen day.
