The Orthodox Church of the Holy Annunciation was built in 1964, but was closed in 1967 after Enver Hoxha began his anti-religion crusade. The building was subsequently used by the Tirana Sports Club until 1990 when it was restored to its original use. No longer the main Orthodox house of worship in the city, the Orthodox Church of the Holy Annunciation is now used primarily as a place for baptizing babies.

Irenaeus Delidimos

4. 3. 2026

The title of the church is not "the Holy Evangelist", but "the Evangelism" i.e. "the Annunciation" (of the Angel to Virgin Mary). The Greek word "Evangelismos" means "Annunciation".

TIYP says: Thanks, Irenaeus!
