The renewed Armed Forces Museum, 13km south of town, has an extensive collection of military hardware parked outside; planes, tanks, a helicopter, an armoured personnel carrier, artillery and even navy ships. Inside, well-prepared exhibitions reveal Albania's military history from antiquity via the 1939-1945 Liberation War, the Cold War years of 1945-1990 to current NATO membership.
