Founded in 1945, the Baj Pomorski Theatre is one of Poland's most renowned puppet theatres. It has since grown to become a state-of-the-art theatre house with a huge program of performances for children and all ages.

It was originally established in the nearby city of Bydgoszcz, it moved shortly after to its current location in Toruń, where it has thrived for over 60 years. But the theatre quickly gained recognition through innovative productions and artistic success, a direct result of creatively overcoming the challenges of modest theatrical equipment and limited resources. Over the decades, the theatre has undergone numerous transformations under different directors. During Stanislaw Stapf’s tenure, it gained national acclaim and staged its first adult production, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. The 1960s brought a shift towards experimental and contemporary works, while later directors, including Krzysztof Arciszewski and Zbigniew Lisowski, expanded international collaborations and developed theatre education programs.

In 2006, a major modernisation project, co-financed by the European Union, resulted in a new state-of-the-art building, enhancing the theatre’s ability to stage innovative, multimedia performances. Today, the Baj Pomorski is celebrated for its unique architectural design and commitment to both artistic excellence and social engagement, with a huge program of performances, many of which are aimed at children and younger audiences
