Toruń

Where is Toruń, Poland, and How to Get There?

more than a year ago
The picturesque medieval city of Toruń is located on a bend of the Vistula River in Northern Poland. Becoming a key Central European trading point in the 17th century, it is not surprising that Toruń is located exactly halfway between the Polish capital of Warsaw and the major port city of Gdańsk. Toruń is well-connected with other Polish and European cities. The major road junction near the city centre is composed of three important national routes: No. 91 and A1 motorway (European No. E75): Helsinki-Gdańsk-Katowice-Budapest-Athens, No. 10: Warsaw-Szczecin and No. 15: Olsztyn-Wrocław (and Poznań).
A1 motorway is a fast and easy connection from Toruń to the north and south of Poland that go through Gdańsk, Łódź, Częstochowa, Kraków and Zakopane. Keep in mind, Polish roads can have dense traffic and many require resurfacing and/or modernizing. There are only a few motorways and the network is growing slowly.

Toruń has 3 main train stations - Toruń Wschodni, Toruń Miasto, Toruń Główny - that are well-connected with several intercity railway networks (Please note that Toruń Miasto is the closest station to the old centre). While the city of Toruń does not have its own airport, the nearby city of Bydgoszcz provides a connection to domestic and international airlines. Once you arrive in Toruń, you have the option of using the local bus service, for which an average ticket costs 2.80zł. Taxis are also available in Toruń and a trip from the old centre to Toruń Miasto train station costs around 10zł. However, the city centre is comparatively small to other Polish cities, therefore walking in Toruń is often the most convenient way to get around. You may also consider bike rental in Toruń and there are tap-and-go bike hubs along Philadelphia Boulevard.  Those planning on driving to Toruń should remember that the medieval old town of the centre is severely restricted when it comes to parking and traffic.
