Top 5 Souvenirs from North Wales

more than a year ago
We’re slaves to souvenirs here at In Your Pocket, and we have absolutely no problem with that. We love picking up mementos of our trips, no matter how wacky or useless, and there is something about looking back at travel that we absolutely adore. We’re going to go ahead and guess that you are the same, so check out our favourite souvenirs to be found in North Wales and Snowdon.

Blaenau Slate

Blaenau Ffestiniog is a little rundown these days, the industrial evolution of recent times has done a number on it, but its place in history is assured. This is slate country, the former slate capital of the world no less, and the mountains of the stuff you see on the way in never fail to impress. Slate-based souvenirs are best purchased here as opposed to other souvenir shops around the region — go for the coasters.

All Rugby Anything

Wales is rugby-mad, and while the obsession with the oval-ball might not be as complete as some like you to believe it still takes pride of place as the nation’s religion. There is no more Welsh souvenir than a Welsh dragon or a miniature rugby ball, or even a Welsh rugby jersey. You’ll have no problem finding rugby souvenirs up north.

A Sword

While we don’t want to advocate the purchase of weapons, there is something about this Conwy shop that really intrigues us. There is something undeniably ‘Welsh’ about it all — a simple passion leading to a world leader in industry — and The Knight Shop is a must when in Conwy. The Welsh have a proud history of medieval conflict and this is the gift shop proof. If you’re after chainmail, you’re in luck.

A Postcard from Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

One of the world’s great quirky tourist destinations, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is easily visited from Bangor or anywhere in the north of Wales. There isn’t a whole amount of things to see — mostly just a train station — but there is something about that ridiculous name that really is ‘once in a lifetime’. Pick up a postcard, a fridge magnet, a t-shirt or whatever you desire, just make sure all 58 characters make it on there.

Puffin Print

Sticking with Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, the excellent Naughty Gull souvenir shop is probably our favourite non-train station spot in the village. Filled with local products from local designers, the Puffin Print tote bags are probably our favourites, cheeky little bags perfect for carrying around in your day to day life. Who doesn’t love puffins?
