Monument to the Revolution

Mrakovica, Kozara National Park     more than a year ago
At the very heart of Kozara National Park sits one of the most iconic spomeniks of them all, which is no small statement. The Monument to the Revolution tells many stories all in one, all centred around the desperate battle against fascism in these parts during World War II. The monument impresses with aesthetics alone, a monolithic segmented concrete structure that is every bit as imposing as photos suggest, but the unveiling of the story takes it all to a whole new level. Everything means something here, from the pillars below the monument to the very segments of the tower themselves, all of which are of different sizes to represent different groups. Kozara National Park has a huge amount to offer on the natural front, but it is this man-made structure that undoubtedly takes centerstage.
