From 1402 to 1412, Jan Hus preached at the Bethlehem Chapel, hence it's significance for non-Catholics, but in 1622, the Jesuits took control of the chapel and Catholic mass became the service of the day. Then in 1786 it was levelled, only to be rebuilt (somewhat strangely) by the communists, who had preserved its architectural plans in 1950. Apparently, they were keen to exploit the chapel's symbolism as an historic emblem of Czech national pride.
