Čardaklije

Just 30 minutes east of Bihać lies Čardaklije, an ethno-village that goes above and beyond to ensure its authenticity. This is local life as it once was, a modern creation embracing the stories and traditions of years gone by, and doing so in a most tranquil setting. Everything here is domestic, from the food on the menu to the architectural styles of the cottages to the methods used on the farm. Even the horses are Bosnian, with the largest concentration of Bosnian Mountain Horses on the planet found here at Čardaklije. Horse aficionados will know that the Bosnian horse was regarded as the best military horse on the planet, but equine newcomers will likely be just as impressed. The village came about out of the desire of one man to show the advantages of this old-fashioned way of life, free of the self-imposed stresses that modern existence comes with. The air is fresh, the view is clear, the mind is uncluttered and the food is absolutely magnificent. The project is continually developing, much like villages back in the day, and you can even book yourself a fully immersive village package (if you fancy yourself as an 18th century Bosnian farmer, or something along those lines). Whether you are after some serious team-building or some simple personal introspection, Čardaklije is the place.
