Lord of the Rings fan? Get yourself to Sarehole Mill, pronto tonto. A Grade II listed mill sat lazily on the Cole river, this is one of only two working water mills in Birmingham. Its functioning state isn’t what attracts visitors however, as most people come because of the mill’s link to JRR Tolkien. The great writer lived nearby as a child and used the mill as an inspiration for the book that made him famous.
