Blagaj Tekija

more than a year ago
Hands down, one of the most awe-inspiring locations on the planet. Blagaj is a must-visit in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and its famous Tekija is the most must-visit spot of this must-visit town. It was constructed way back in the early 16th century, a place of education and development in a most miraculous location, privy to the tentative first steps of the Bune river and the majestic cliff face that holds its secrets. Over the years the Tekija served as many things, weaving through different faces like some sort of spiritual chameleon, meaning it defies pigeon-holing to this very day. It isn’t a monastery, because Islam forbids monasticism. Some have linked the house to the fabled Bogomils, but this is more likely hope than fact. All of this does make sense, trust us, as Blagaj’s Tekija is a unique spot that can mean something different to all who sweep into its charming rooms and unbeatable serenity. Drink the water, make a wish, pay your respects, listen to the stories and take a moment to consider just how lucky you are.
