St Martin’s Day is celebrated throughout Slovenia and it is common to find many outdoor celebrations underway in small and large towns across the country. The history of the day is said to originate from a Celtic holiday which paid tribute to the autumn fruits. Although officially recognised on the 11th of the month celebrating the new wine vintage with feasting and dancing often carries on for a week or two longer.
