Only about 30 wooden churches remain in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the dainty example found in the little village of Jelicka is one of the most engaging. Built in 1841, this tiny house of worship is an architectural gem in the aesthetic and spiritual sense, and still functions as a church today. A more modern version stands next door, but it is this old fashioned piece that really attracts. The interior mimics the intimacy that you expect, although do call ahead to ensure a visit is possible.
