Slowly being renovated bit by bit, it’ll take many years of work to bring Ostrovica Castle back to its original splendour. But then this is what we want from our medieval fortresses in the modern age, right? This majestic castle was built way back in the 15th century, and the centuries of conflict, strain and nature will always take their toll. Where proud walls once stood now memories remain, whispered stories of Croatian nobility, Ottoman conquest and Austrian neglect. The partially ruined fortress stands on top of a steep hill overlooking Kulen Vakuf.
