The Bogomils are revered throughout BiH and the stećci are the famous sect’s most iconic gift — intricately detailed tombstones from centuries gone by. A number of stećci are found just a few kilometres outside of modern Banovići, alongside a World War II memorial and a Muslim cemetery. One of the tombstones is the final resting place of the man after whom the town is named — Božićko Banović — and is decorated with a drawing of a flower and the lyrical aesthetics of Bosnian cyrillic script.
