Brasov

Catherine's Gate

more than a year ago
Built by Brasov's Tailors' Guild in 1559, for centuries (until the construction of the Schei Gate in the 19th century) Catherine's Gate was the principle entrance into the walled medieval city. (It was also the only entrance that Romanians were allowed to use). Set over three levels the tower is topped by five turrets. The name is thought to come from a monastery which once stood on the site.
