Built from 1827-28 after Catherine's Gate became too small for increasingly tall traders' carts, the fact that Schei Gate still copes with modern traffic is testament to the foresight and skill of its designers and builders. The gate is built in a classical style with two smaller openings for pedestrians on either side of the main entrance, giving the gate the appearance of a triumphal arch. This is not coincidental: note the Latin inscriptions on the wall above the small arches, dedicated to Habsburg Emperor of Francis I, who visited Brasov in 1817.
